The recently updated NSW Immunisation Schedule (February 2025) provides a comprehensive roadmap for safeguarding your child's health.
Key Childhood Vaccination Milestones
The NSW Immunisation Schedule includes essential vaccines funded under the National Immunisation Program:
- Birth: Hepatitis B vaccination within 7 days (ideally within 24 hours)
- 6 weeks: First round of multiple vaccines including protection against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, polio, and pneumococcal disease
- 4 months: Second round of vaccinations
- 6 months: Third round of core vaccinations
- 12 months: Meningococcal ACWY, pneumococcal, and measles/mumps/rubella vaccines
- 18 months: Additional boosters and varicella vaccine
- 4 years: Final childhood boosters
Special Focus: The 6-Month Milestone
The 6-month visit is particularly important as your baby becomes more social and interactive. This is an excellent time to discuss additional protection options with your doctor.
Meningococcal B Vaccine (Bexsero)
While the National Immunisation Program covers Meningococcal ACWY, we strongly recommend considering the Meningococcal B vaccine (Bexsero) as an additional protection measure. The 6-month visit is an ideal time for this vaccination because:
- Your baby is becoming more social and exposed to more people
- There's only one standard vaccination scheduled at this time
- It complements the protection provided by the routine schedule

Important Note About Paracetamol
Bexsero is the only childhood vaccination that requires prophylactic paracetamol:
- Give the first dose 30 minutes before vaccination
- Continue with two more doses 6 hours apart
Forgot to give paracetamol beforehand? Don't worry! We have liquid paracetamol available for purchase at our clinic.
Flu Vaccinations: Annual Protection
Mark your calendars! Flu vaccinations become available each April. Getting your child vaccinated early in the season provides the best protection during winter months.
